Our growing philosophy is quite different as it incorporates not only solely natural methods, but regenerative processes that not only do not disturb the environment but work to actively improve our surroundings. I love to create new habitats on our farm for wildlife and the little critters! They are so important to the vitality of not only our farm, but to our communities and the planet as a whole. The term organic doesn't mean much anymore, and so I never really use that term to describe what we are doing here. It's so much more! We never, and I mean NEVER use chemicals of any kind on our property or plants. It's just never an option we have ever considered. Organic certification allows the use of various chemicals that I would never want in my food and we only utilize 100% natural methods for everything.
Sowing Seeds is a different kind of nursery. Our goal is not to just sell plants. Any nursery can do that, and that's just a small piece of what we do here. Our goal is to TEACH and to ENCOURAGE others to grow their own food. This is so important in a world where food shortages are becoming more common, and there is so much dependance on grocery stores and restaurants to give us food when we can be growing it for our families in our own little backyards! We want people to be able to gain confidence about being able to turn their own yards into food forests! It's so easy, and can be done on even 1/4 of an acre! We have given the same coaching to families who have taken home our goat kids, and it is such a blessing to be able to help families move towards homesteading and self sufficiency.

What we are doing is regenerative and holistic. All of our plants are all grown from seed, except for dahlia tubers, anemone and ranunculus (although next year it looks like we won't need to order those). We really like Vermont based High Mowing Organic Seeds but we also bring in organic varieties from Hudson Valley Seed Co and also Seeds of Change - choosing heirloom varieties wherever possible, and at times finding other USDA certified organic seeds. We are licensed with the Vermont Department of Agriculture, and our nursery and center are located in South Burlington, about 10 minutes from downtown Burlington.

We give all the glory to God for how He has blessed this amazing endeavor!  Thanks so much for your support!
